Self-Hosted or Developer-Hosted?
Selecting a proven hosting company is also one of the most important things you do when you start blogging, right behind the domain name. There are two main classifications of blog hosting, self-hosted (you host your blog, paying for hosting) or you have someone else host it (free or paid service).
Now, what are the main benefits of each? For starters, you need to be able to define your goals. Where do you want to take your blog?
A majority of people will never need the resources required for dedicated servers, so you might want to start with a free provider, or at the very least, an affordable solution that doesn’t leave a huge impact on your personal income.
The next major point is that you have more control when you host your blog yourself. Many free blog providers have limitations as to how many posts you can create, storage space, bandwidth, etc., which may limit your ability to post as frequently or include media such as images and video.
If someone reports your blog for objectionable content, it will take more time before your blog and account is deleted when you host your blog yourself, especially if you own your server.
The general rule of thumb in this is that it is important to begin on the right path as you don’t want to risk losing money or time not doing it right.
