Don’t Have Much Time on Your Hands to Blog?

Published by blogtips at 5:19 pm under Basics Edit This

Going on TV and shouting out how you earned a large sum of money by blogging and telling the audience that it was easy to begin probably wasn’t the best idea to entice people to begin blogging. Millions of people fell for the ‘blogging scam’ this way, leading to a not-so-positive outlook for those who began and immediately felt that it was more work than it was truly worth for the time put in. Now, blogging is in no way a scam, but the way that it is advertised in the mainstream media can cause some confusion for the people who are trying to legitimately try to make money without scamming people.

The time versus income issue is something that draws most people away from blogging immediately or soon after they begin. What exactly is this factor?

Well, let’s say you put an hour into your blog. What will you get out of that? Probably not $7 an hour from the start, but something more “trivial.” You won’t earn cash from the start unless you have proven methods of drawing in traffic and pleasing advertisers - you have been able to accomplish something that normally takes others years to achieve. Blogging isn’t something that you can automatically claim to be your strongest point. Yes, everyone is able to write something and call it a post. But, you have to have the background, knowledge, and power to back up your claims. You have to be proven in being able to draw in new subscribers, connect with other people, and become a leader at what you are trying to accomplish.

By the time you have put in an hour of your time, you might realize that you are ultimately working towards these greater goals; not so much as the trivial cash, but much more wide-sweeping plans that will lead to success - after a year or two. After all, you have to start somewhere. It is better to start off small than not at all. Giving up is the only answer that isn’t acceptable in blogging. It is like saying that you don’t have the determination to start something you haven’t even begun, if you get the picture.

Having the time to blog is another story. Some people say that they are able to spend less than an hour blogging each week. It is certainly possible, but truly, how much of their effort has been invested in other properties through the web? It is likely that they have other blogs, other methods to earn online, and blog as a side project, not having to draw all their traffic to that one property. Even people who are able to type and spew out ideas at a fast rate have trouble getting a post properly published within an hour or two. It is a simple matter of not having enough time in each day to accomplish what you need to get done.

Solving the problem may not be that easy, either. Especially if you have a family and a full-time job, beginning a blog might be the last piece of extra work that you want to add to your plate. However, it is certainly a path that you could go down, especially in times where money is tough or you want to add some side-value to your life. You are able to connect to people around the world through blogging, even more so with social networking and communication tools freely available now more than ever before.

Time is constantly working against you.

Here’s a few simple ways to solve that problem and what you should do to invest more time in your blogging pursuits.

1. Begin with a focus. Cut out the things that don’t really matter and devote more time to the things that really do.
2. Don’t think that spending less time on something will result in an equal number of benefits or results every time. Especially with the Internet, some things that you do can be much more worthwhile than others, even though one might take hours compared to a few minutes.
3. Figure out what you want to do first. Blog about something or participate in an activity online that truly interests you. If it doesn’t, there is no reason why you should be doing it compared to some other, more traditional task, like working offline.
4. Create spreadsheets and charts to track the time that you are spending doing each thing. This way, you’ll be able to properly visualize what is taking up the largest portion of your time.
5. Commit to goals that are achievable and not out of your reach. There is nothing worse than setting hundreds of goals or working on multiple projects to only say that you have completed one the way you wanted it to turn out.
6. If you are a blogger, write several posts at once. Spend some time on each, and by the end of the day, you will have multiple day’s work ready for publication without appearing as though you’ve spent an enormous amount of time on them.

Why It Can Be Difficult to Estimate Time versus Benefits

When you write an article, you are spending quite a bit of time researching, preparing, and then drafting an article for publication to the web. Including additional content, such as images and other elements can add quite a bit of time to the entire process. For this reason, it can be difficult to get something “visual” out of it, such as an earnings boost. However, when you look at the whole picture, you could be gaining so much more.

– Every article contributes to the success of your website.
– You have more links pointing to your site from search engines as a result of each publication.
– When another blog links to you, each link could result in anywhere from one to several thousand additional views of your blog.
– Articles help increase the number of targeted ads placed on your site. When advertisers see the type of content that is published to your site, they are more likely to advertise based on who you associate with and who you don’t.
– Articles might not become popular until your website has been established for several months and more people see them.
– It takes a fraction of the time for readers to share and enjoy an article than it takes to write and research everything. This is similar to books and many movies - the time expense might not be greater than the earnings until several months (or even years) down the road.

These were a few tips to help you get started learning about how to manage your time more effectively and why blogging or content producing for the web might not be the best thing for you if you have a full-time job. You have to learn that the long-term benefits of blogging can equal that or exceed that from other activities you might do online or elsewhere.
