Cleaning Out Your Feed Reader
Over time, much like your email inbox, your subscribed items list will grow. But, much like the people who contact you frequently, your subscribed blogs (or contacts/messages) needs to be cleaned out. It’s kind of like spring cleaning but without all the chemicals.
Here’s the basics on how to do it:
– Delete the blogs that haven’t updated or no longer interest you. If you still like the content, but the site owner has abandoned the blog, don’t bother deleting it, as the content in your feed reader is “saved” and won’t be going anywhere.
– Limit the number of blogs you have subscribed to. It isn’t quite as easy to do this, as you might enjoy reading hundreds of blogs. You’ll have to define a limit sometime.
– Find a way to mark new posts as read, so you can get to the root of the problem. Or, simply start “refreshed” by marking all as read, then working your way to the main blogs.
– Use statistics to determine whether you were interested in the content. For example, Google Reader has advanced tools to determine when you read it and the rate that you read the content.
Using a few of these simple methods will allow you to focus more on your blog than de-cluttering your feed reader.
