Bloggers Can’t Have It All
Before you start a blog, there are a number of compromises that you must make, which may have even more long-lasting effects on both you and your family. Some people think that once they start a blog, they will be living the “life” and will be able to quit regular work in due time, once their earnings have reached their pre-blogging level.
While some aspects of this might be somewhat true, for many, there are more consequences to starting a blog and becoming a blogger than one might think.
For one, you will have to spend more time away from your family, unless you are able to work them into your schedule, offering them to post or share input on your blog. However, this is rarely the case, as they desert you while you post - you may enjoy the quiet more than you might think.
Another major side effect of starting a blog is that you become more stressed. Blogging isn’t (and shouldn’t be) a part of the “easy lifestyle” and takes a lot of time, money, and stress to maintain. You will find yourself worried and thinking about writing new content on your blog while you are doing other activities, including your regular, full-time job. It can be a difficult struggle, but one that can be overcome as you become more involved in your blog.
Just because you see someone post those infamous checks, proving that they can make money online, doesn’t mean that everyone will make that much, nor will you, yourself. There is a chance of earning that much, but it will only come with the hard work and dedication of someone with a proven track record of knowing how to get things done.
Finally, remember that the facts of life apply to blogging. When you choose one thing, you can’t have the next, and you must make compromises - earn some extra money by being the first to post a news item, or spend more time with the family, hoping to create new memories.
Your Turn - What are some of the compromises and decisions that you have had to make as a result of starting a blog - were they beneficial or detrimental to the long-term success of your blog/family?
This is very true. I can sometimes spend hours on the computer.
